Ladies & gentlemen... the new album from Alan Jones. Alan is from Inverness, MS and has been playing in blues and rock'n roll bands for over 20 years. We sat down with Alan to discuss the new album and a few other things. Below is the play by play.
ME: So Alan, it's been a while. How are things in the Delta?
AJ: All is well here. Since the BB King museum opened in Indianola it seems that the sleepy town has begun to come to life. There is actually a decent night life now, as opposed to no night life just a few years ago. More gig opportunities.
ME: It's getting close to picking season. How's this year's crop looking?
AJ: No cotton this year. Again. And no change in the forseeable future. All soybeans. The rain situation was pretty bad. When we needed to plant, it wouldn't stop raining. When we needed rain it never came. Typical. I wrote a song about this actually. It may find its way onto my upcoming countryfried rock album.
ME: Have you been playing (live) much?
AJ: At least once a weekend, sometimes twice. I've been doing a lot of solo acoustic gigs for engagement parties and events such as that. Every now and then we manage to pull Jon Boat and the Trollin' Motors together for a night of fun. I much much more prefer playing with the whole band. I wanna rock! And that's hard when you're playing a Simon & Garfunkel tune.
ME: I'm diggin' the new tunes... tell me a little about the record. Where was it recorded and who all played on it?
AJ: It was all recorded in my living room 7 miles outside of the little town of Inverness, MS. I played all the instruments on rhe album. My friend Ben Skelton and I are dabbling with some ideas but haven't had a chance to press the record button. Our first hit single is called "Let's Light a Candle In Remembrance Of Our Love". Powerhouse.
ME: What do you think about all of the wildfires out west? Does it have anything to do with Schwarzenegger?
AJ: Isn't he a republican? He probably started it because all republicans hate nature and anything associated with it. It's always just kill, kill, kill . . . . .
ME: Would you rather be a vampire, werewolf or a shapeshifter?
AJ: I think a shapeshifter would be able to move around more freely in today's fast pace world. When I'm on the go and I haven't got to have a decent meal I reach for . . . . . . Oh, sorry. I started thinking this was a hot pocket commercial. What was the question?
ME: Kenny Rogers or Kris Kristopherson?
AJ: C'mon man, Kris Kristopherson any day of the week. I heard Kenny Rogers entered a Kenny Rogers look alike contest and came in third.
ME: Happy Gilmore or Billy Madison?
AJ: Billy Gilmore
ME: What are you listening to right now?
AJ: A mix of 60's British invasion songs made by a friend in Belgium. Obscure but awesome songs.
