GOODMOON STUDIO/ME Records

One of my earliest memories of my grandfather was his amp. It always sat right behind his recliner, like a gun on his hip. On the weekends the entire Massey clan would gather at their house for dinner and entertainment. The grown ups would play music while the kids played football in the back yard. Like my father, I was always into sports more than music until my junior year in high school, when I saw one of my best friends play the bass line to “Fascination Street”. I was hooked; I had to become a musician.

Soon after that I finally talked my parents into buying me my first guitar and that’s where it began. I bought my first analog four track (Tascam Porta Studio 2) a few years later and started recording in the summer of 2000. I had a small bedroom in the first house my wife and I rented that I turned into a mini studio. The first incarnation of Goodmoon Studio was born (where the early Delta Medicinemen, Capture Squad albums were recorded.) A year or two later we moved across town to a little bigger house and I upgraded to a digital eight track (Fostex MR8). We utilized the shop I had out back as well as the spare bedroom for a plethora of recordings. The songs were just pouring out; we couldn’t record them fast enough (which was a bit on the detrimental side, because that coupled with my impatience led to us releasing anything and everything that was recorded).

Goodmoon Studio circa 2001

In 2004 my wife and I moved to Atlanta (actually Kennesaw) and Goodmoon Studio took it’s smallest home (so far) in the form of a one bedroom apartment. It didn’t stop us from pulling the drums out of storage on occasion to record ("Welcome To My Dream Job" & "Warrants, Whiskey & Wisemen"). We had to notify everyone in our apartment complex and take off work so we could record during the day when most of the normal people were not at home.

By 2006 we had had enough of the apartment life and started looking for a house. We ended up Acworth, GA near Lake Alatoona. The house was perfect, it had a finished room in the basement which immediately became the new home for Goodmoon Studio. In 2008 I sold my truck and sunk all of the money into the studio, buying new recording equipment and instruments.

In December 2008 Massey Entertainment launced ME Records, a free digital distribuiton label, on masseyentertainment.com. In the past when an album was released on the Massey Entertainment label only a handful of copies were distributed amongst friends, family and the one off shots to independent record companies/record stores. With the creation of ME Records hopefully the word will be spread a little easier and more can enjoy our music cause we enjoy making it.
