"I was lucky to hook up with these guys. They're the ones I cut my teeth with playing live. They have been doing it since they were in double digits. We made a really good noise together. Listen to the whole thing."
- Alan Beckham (guitar & vocals)
This album was the reason Goodmoon Studio was started. It's basically why I picked up a guitar in the first place. At the time I couldn't play a chord and I couldn't tell you the difference between a strat or a tele but the one thing I could tell is I loved the way live music made me feel. I was at the golden age in my life where I didn't have any responsibilities other than maintaining a part time job in the afternoons and going to college. So the later afternoon and evenings were taken up by music, ultimate frisbee and long cruises that usually ended with catching the sunset from the top of an indian mound.
The guys decided to record their debut album at Easley Studio in Memphis where Sonic Youth, Pavement, Jon Spencer, Wilco and many many other bands we were into recorded. I was lucky enough to tag along and experience the inside of a real recording studio. It was an experience I will never forget and am thankful I was able to take part in.
- Johnny Massey (founder Goodmoon Studio/ME Records)
"Recording The Comedy Machine was the coolest thing I've ever done. We started out as a frat cover band, and ended up being something much cooler. We practiced these songs (plus many others that didn't make it on here) constantly out at Longview and live, playing out in Starkville. We went into Easley and recorded this album in one night. I think a couple of them are first or second takes. I still smile when I hear Brantley throw the tambourine on the floor."
